The scarab is the oldest Egyptian symbol from the animal kingdom. As a symbol it had an extremely prominent place in the religion of the Egyptians. In terms of modern entomology, the Egyptians worshiped at least four species of scarabs, of which Ateuchus sacer is most commonly depicted. This type had a total of thirty limbs, which symbolized the days of the month. The lump of dung he usually carries symbolized, among other things, the midday sun, a symbol of the god Ra. Plutarch mentions that Egyptian warriors wore a scarab as a talisman and to give them strength in battle. Women wore it to give them fertility. Other species of scarab, perhaps the lucanus which has small horns, the fullo which had white spots, and others, were also used as magical charms. In the Astrology of the Egyptians the scarab played an important role and they were in the same position instead of the constellation of Cancer.
